I wanted to welcome any new viewers for my blog, from Kahala La Grange.
A little update. The team is about one and a half weeks away from the start of Valley of the Sun Stage Race, in Phoenix, AZ.
This past weekend some of the team races in Campo, Ca. The name of the race was Boulevard. I woke up at 6am and made some breakfast then put my backpack on and rode to Peets Coffee Shop to meet my ride (Tom and Molly). The tempurature was in the fifties when we left at 7am. After driving about three hours and going up between 4 and 5 thousand feet, the tempurature dropped into the upper thirties to low forties. This is where the temp. stayed for the duration of the day. Which once we got started did not feel so bad until the race was over and the sweat soaked clothes began to act like a swamp cooler in mississippi. Which meant I began to get really cold. So I made my way to the car as fast I could to change clothes and get some food in me.
As for the race. The course was a 22.5 mile loop with about 11 mile of climbing on the back half of the course. The areas where we did get to descend there was a head wind which meant we were not able to really cruise, but had to work to make time on the main field. This last sentence lets you know I made my way into a break. About 1.5 laps into a 4 lap race, me and my teammate Ben Bradshaw made it into the decisive break and ended up putting about 6 minutes into the main field. The break had about 25 riders in it and all but about 4 of us were from Toyota United, Jelly Belly, Rock Racing and Kelly Benefits. This put the odds against my teammate along with the other guys that had only one or no teammates in the break. With one lap to go there was a split in the break and Ben was on the front of the break so I let the gap open up and give him a chance to increase his chances of winning. There was no chance of being caught by the field behind us, because of the time gap already made. He came across the line 12th and I ended up 18th. This was a good result for the early season.
Thanks for visiting.
