OK. So going into this race my plan was to work for the guys on the team that could hold the title since I am not a permanent resident.
Two miles into the race, I went with an attack. This was the first of three 31mile loops. The break consisted of a liquid fitness rider, a Swamis rider, one of my team mates Stu "Disco" Press and myself. After about 15km it was down to three of us so one rider from each of the three teams in the orginal move as we began the 4 mile climb. We were working well together and my legs were light for the first time in a while. as we came through to start the second lap we had about 4 minutes on the field. At the base of the long climb one of my team mates bridged across with another rider, all while the origional two riders fell off and now it was still just three of us but two new riders. We continued to work together all the way down to the last lap where Jorge (my team mate) and I tried to get one of us off and solo in. Well, after 85miles of breakaway for me I was a little tired so I decided the best bet would be for me to get Jorge off and it almost worked. Jorge was second and I was third. This was a good day for me, in that I am begining to feel like myself again!! For those who know power it was 91 breakaway with an average power reading of 335 watts (3hrs 45min).
After this race we packed the car up in the parking lot and drove to Portland for Mt. Hood Stage race. Where last night I did the prologue. I riding well with a really stong time about 400 meters to go when I look up and see a lady on her town bike in the middle of my lane and I am doing about 35mph and have to stop fast. Well, I stopped fast when I grabbed a fist full of brakes front and rear and did an indo and then came flying off my bike. Since, I was as hard as I could and I also knocked what wind I had out of my lungs so I was laying on the ground moaning and weezing, so everyone around me thought the crash was bad and even worse once they heard the noises coming out of me. Once I caught my breath I grabbed my bike that now has a smashed top tube and said "I have to ride across the line if I want to start." So that is what I did but very slowly. O yea, the lady that was the cause of this wreck said she did not see the barriers that were lining the whole course along with the caution tape so she proceeded on the cours.
I am doing ok and will start todays race.
Matt

I am relieved that you are ok, but I did not like that story. Thank God it had a somewhat happy ending. Please be careful and look out for those old women on townies. Don't let them slow you down. You are doing awesome! Enjoy Oregon! I wish I could be there!
